David Moore receives the Paul S. Collier Award from NRLA President Rita Ferris.

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — On Oct. 22, the Northeastern Retail Lumber Association (NRLA) presented David Moore, President of Wiley Brothers in Schaghticoke, N.Y., with the Paul S. Collier Award. The Collier Award recognizes the loyal, faithful and devoted services above and beyond the call of duty to the lumber and building material industry and to the Northeastern Retail Lumber Association.

During his nearly 30 years of service to the NRLA, Moore has served on almost every NRLA committee. He has volunteered with Group 531 to provide insurance and dividends to New York members. He served on the NRLA Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He also served as Vice-Chair, Chair-Elect, and NRLA Chair, and then came back onto the Executive Committee several years later to serve as Treasurer for three years.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with David on many committees including his chairmanship of the NRLA,” explained Rita Ferris, NRLA President. “When there is a difficult job to do, he is the first one on the call list. He always steps up without reservation, contributes in a significant way and then is happy to give the credit for his work to others. I look forward to many more years of our partnership.”

“I was fortunate to have served with him on many of the committees,” says Bob Bicknell, chairman of the NRLA. “I can honestly say that the example he set and the support he gave me is the reason I continued to be actively involved with the NRLA. He is my mentor, my hero, and my friend.”

In addition to his commitment to the lumber and building materials industry, Moore has served as a member of the Hoosic Valley School Board, the Tri-County Holstein Club, the Rensselaer County Cooperative Extension, the county Agricultural and Horticultural Society, and on the board of his church and as a committeeman for his town.

This is only the second time the Collier Award has been bestowed upon an NRLA member. The previous awardee was Jack Connors, of BROSCO in 2013. Paul Collier served the lumber and building material industry for over 60 years and led the NRLA to grow from covering just New York, having associations across the Northeast.
