Wayne, PA – On September 19th and 20th, LMC hosted its annual Dealer Exchange in Houston, Texas. The event brings together LMC Dealers from around the country for roundtable discussions and the sharing of best practices
Topics focused primarily on overcoming challenges facing LBM dealers in the digital age. They included adapting to changing customer expectations, the need for personalized customer experiences to drive retention, and using technology for better reporting in yard management.
New to the Dealer Exchange this year was a crossover day with the LMC Leadership Summit attendees. This Summit brings together the next-generation of leaders in the LMC Dealer network to prepare them for the road ahead in their family businesses. Thanks to the crossover day, Summit attendees were able to gain valuable insight from the today’s leaders in the LMC network and similarly, today’s leaders gained a unique perspective from the next generation.
This year’s Dealer Exchange also included tours of The Detering Co. and NASA. The Detering Tour offered attendees insight into the production and management strategies of one of the leading millwork companies in the industry. The NASA Tour provided a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see behind the scenes of NASA’s Houston operations, including historic facilities, astronaut training areas and mission control for the International Space Station. This was followed by a special presentation from former NASA astronaut Jose M. Hernandez.
Glen Akins from Harper Chambers Lumber Company in Tuscaloosa, AL said, “This was my first Dealer Exchange and I thought it was great! Being able to sit and listen to other owners and managers “open up” about their business and concerns was refreshing to say the least. We all struggle with different things within our business’s and to have such a great group of people together in one location speaks volumes of what LMC is trying to accomplish in securing the future of our dealers. Not only did I connect with otherowners and managers; I was able to talk with the Aspiring Leaders about some of the obstacles they will face in their future endeavors.”
To support those effected by the hurricane attendees from both events donated several thousand dollars Katy ISD Education Foundation that supports the local Houston School Districts.

It was a busy couple of days for all involved, but attendees left with not only new ideas and best practices to bring back home, but new relationships with fellow dealers that could last a lifetime.
